A leading thinker behind Creative Commons describes how the organization is helping 
“save the world from failed sharing” through free tools that enable creators 
to easily make their work available to the public for legal sharing and remix.

Creative Commons (englisch, ‚schöpferisches Gemeingut‘, ‚Allmende‘) ist eine gemeinnützige Gesellschaft, die im Internet verschiedene Standard-Lizenzverträge veröffentlicht, 
mittels derer Autoren der Öffentlichkeit auf einfache Weise Nutzungsrechte an ihren Werken einräumen können. 
Anders als etwa die von der Freie-Software-Gemeinde bekannte GPL sind diese Lizenzen jedoch nicht auf einen einzelnen Werkstyp zugeschnitten, 
sondern für beliebige Werke anwendbar, die unter das Urheberrecht fallen, zum Beispiel Texte, Bilder, Musikstücke, Videoclips, usw.. 
Ferner gibt es eine starke Abstufung der Freiheitsgrade: 
Von Lizenzen, die sich kaum vom völligen Vorbehalt der Rechte unterscheiden, bis hin zu Lizenzen, die das Werk in die Public Domain stellen, 
das heißt, bei denen auf das Urheberrecht so weit wie möglich verzichtet wird.

CV Michelle Thorne:
I work for Creative Commons* as International Project Manager, coordinating over seventy countries (jurisdictions) worldwide to localize Creative Commons tools and promote legal sharing.
I contribute to projects such as CC Case Studies, which document exemplary and innovative license usage.
I organized the Free Culture Research Conference, an event dedicated to exploring the commons and hybrid economies, 
and co-chaired Mozilla’s Drumbeat Festival on Learning, Freedom, and the Web, bringing together disruptive technologists and educators to forge the future of education.
I co-founded the Awesome Foundation Berlin, a lightweight association to fund small projects. 
As a believer in making and doing things, I also helped “chaordinate” the DMY Maker Lab and other DIY projects in Berlin and around the world.
Previously, I co-organized the Berlin salon series Openeverything and a thematic track at the festival for “thinking, making, and doing” atomsandbits. 
I wrote for the Gemeingüter (commons) blog and copyedited for the Technology for Transparency Network.
