Summary: Statistics Thread is not disposed

Details: When the application service shuts down its statistics thread is not disposed. This is particularily an issue if the application service runs inside a servlet engine (Tomcat), because with every servlet reinitialization a new statistics thread is spawn and eats CPU and memory.
